Idaho Fights Against Pride Ban With Creative Idea: ‘Rage Against the Machine’

That’s one way to do it

As you know, several groups have been targeted ever since Trump became president and began changing things across the country. Yet, one of the groups that got hit the worst was the LGBTQ+ one, as several states have banned ways of representing it, such as pride flags. Unfortunately, Idaho was one of the states that banned all pride flags, but Boise found a creative way to keep supporting this group.

For those who don’t know, Idaho banned pride flags from all government buildings across the state. However, this didn’t stop the people at Boise, as some have already found a way to go around this ban and still show their support to the LGBTQ+ members.

Since the ban explicitly mentioned flags, Boise City Hall installed a sign featuring an 11-stripe rainbow with the words “Creating a city for everyone,” according to the original Advocate report.

This isn’t the first time that Boise has fought back against the Pride flag ban. As you know, when the ban took effect, the capital city added the rainbow icon to its official flag to circumvent the statewide ban. And while certain political figures have tried to tighten this law to remove all LGBTQ+ representation completely, Boise is still looking for a smarter and more creative way to show support, such as the aforementioned sign, which doesn’t fall into the umbrella of what the law is banning.

Idaho Redditors Praise Boise’s Defiance Against the Pride Ban Law

Naturally, many Redditors from Idaho saw this as a positive and quickly praised the capital city for showing defiance in a creative way, while also seeking options to continue supporting this community.

“Rage against the machine. Love to see it.“

“Masterclass in malicious compliance! I love it!“

Other people shared positive thoughts about the city’s mayor, and a few made remarks saying that people should “stick it” to those who passed the controversial law.

“Right on Boise!!! Stick it to the man.“

“I love my city. Good job mayor!“

In the end, Boise did an excellent, highly creative thing to work around a law that has been affecting several people ever since it took effect. And while this is great, there are a few Redditors who are worried that this act of defiance will bring another law that could then ban signs and any other thing that represents the LGBTQ+ community.
