Lucifer fans, rejoice! TV-streaming giant Netflix has announced that they will pick up the supernatural drama series after FOX canceled it in May.

The streaming service, which hit an impressive 125 million subscribers in April, has revived Lucifer for its fourth season. The announcement follows months of campaigning by the show’s cult following, using the hashtag #PickUpLucifer on social media. Series star, Tom Ellis, who plays the titular character, even attempted to prolong the show’s life by flying to Los Angeles to see if he could get the show picked up by another network.

On Twitter, producer and writer Joe Henderson thanked fans, telling them to “get ready for some more deviltime”.

Thank you thank you THANK YOU to all the #Lucifer fans. You brought us back. YOU did this. So relax, take a breath, put some ice on those fingers that have been hashtagging up a storm… and get ready for more deviltime ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

— Joe Henderson (@Henderson_Joe) June 15, 2018

Lucifer himself, Tom Ellis, also thanked the fans, emphasizing that it was due to their support that the show had found a new home.

WE DID IT !!!!!!!!!!! Thank you to everyone for your continued support and love for #Lucifer I am so happy for all our fans Iโ€™m going to burst โœŠ๐Ÿ˜ˆโค๏ธ https://t.co/DhvTdevGW2

Lucifer started airing on FOX on January 26, 2016 and has run three seasons, totaling 57 episodes (which includes two ‘bonus episodes’). As fans of the drama will know, the third season finale left a cliffhanger open, with Lucifer having defeated Pierce (played by Smallville‘s Tom Welling) and his love interest, Chloe (Lauren German), accidentally chancing upon his true ‘Devil Face’ before the episode ended. No doubt fans are looking forward to seeing the conclusion to this revelation when the fourth season finally airs.

Lucifer

Lucifer’s revival is one in a line of show ‘rescues’ that have occurred in recent times.ย  On May 11, 2018, Syfy canceled The Expanse which led to fans protesting online, signing a campaign which received over 100,000 signatures. Among the fans were such celebrities as Wil Wheaton, George R.R Martin, Patton Oswalt and Andreas Morgensen. Eventually, after fans lobbied the show to Amazon and Netflix, Amazon picked up the series. A similar situation occurred with FOX’s cancellation of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, with huge fan demand and uproar online thought to have influenced NBC’s decision to pick up the show for a sixth season.

What are your thoughts on Lucifer’s revival? Are you looking forward to the fourth season? Let us know in the comments!
