A viral post by far-right political activist Laura Loomer on the social media platform X details how Florida Governor Ron DeSantis plans to gather lawmakers to a special legislative session to redraw the state’s 20 congressional districts in response to the “Democratic power grab” currently happening in Virginia.

Commenters quickly took to the replies beneath the post to share their opinions, with some condemning Loomer’s thoughts as a whole, with some users going so far as to accuse her of gerrymandering in favor of the GOP.

According to the written part of the post, Governor Ron DeSantis “officially convening a special legislative session starting April 28th to redraw Florida’s congressional districts and account for the state’s massive conservative population boom.“

Despite the potential for two to five additional GOP-leaning seats, party members feel that this decision could dilute the existing Republican seats to the point of actually affecting voting this fall.

According to Loomer, this choice could weigh in on the remapping that is reportedly happening in Virginia, claiming that the “Democrat power grab the radical left is currently trying to force through the courts in Virginia!“

Reactions to Ron DeSantis’s Special Legislative Session Concerning Redrawing Florida Districts

Users on X shared their opinion on the decision, with some directly attacking Laura Loomer, with one person writing, “Laura Loomer doesn’t believe in Democracy. She’s for gerrymandering. This all started back in August 2025, President Trump, said he was entitled to five more House seats. So he had the Texas Legislature, redraw district maps to cheat. MAGA started this.“

According to one comment, DeSantis was inspired by Virginia’s inclusion of additional Democratic seats, which was intitally in response to Donald Trump allegedly adding GOP-leaning seats in Texas. This person wrote, “Loonie , Trump is the one that started the redrawing Texas’ congressional districts … NO ? Democrats only countered that move with Virginia . If the GOP Florida counters , then the Democrats will counter again . It’s Trump who opened the can of warms.”

Other comments corroborate this, with one accusing Texas of cheating, writing, “More cheating. Do what Texas did. Cheat. What a disgrace. And careful how you redraw those maps, Trump is such polling a loser, races in Trump +5 to Trump + 10 will be tossups.“

According to a memorandum posted to the FL Senate website, the Legislature in Special Session will convene from April 28 to May 1, for 30 total hours, to consider this legislation.
