President Donald Trump’s recent dinner party in Washington, DC, is no doubt a magnet for controversy, mainly due to the failed assassination attempt. It just so happens that there’s no shortage of celebrities who have made their own jabs at the incident, and apart from Jimmy Kimmel, actress January Jones is also going viral for her take on the Trump dinner party.
Jones, famous for her role as Betty Draper in Mad Men, took to Instagram on April 27 to share her thoughts about the failed dinner assassination with a joke implying how it was an inside job from the “US Government.” The TV actress wrote on her temporary Instagram Story, “Do you have a boring dinner party coming up, and lots of losers and fake friends have rsvp’d? Are you looking for help staging a small scale low risk assassination attempt to get out of it?”
She added, “Look no further, the US Government is your man, call us now… and they’ll add a bonus podium to take about how cool and strong you are and ruin everyone’s evening.” Many commenters have since taken Jones’ joke as an implication that the Trump administration staged the assassination attempt, though so far, no evidence has been presented to confirm that speculation.
Jones’ joke has since gone viral on Reddit and her own Instagram account, where commenters have praised her for the rather witty criticism of the US Government. It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time Jones has publicly decried the Trump administration, having done so since 2016 and again in 2020.

Ironically enough, Jones character in Mad Men was a Republican, making her recent post about the Trump administration all the more poetic. For some, however, they were simply laughing with her, “I didn’t realize January Jones was funny af.” Another comment echoed the sentiment, praising Jones, “January Jones is my kinda wacky.”
Sadly, not all jokes about Trump’s dinner party assassination attempt landed well. Jimmy Kimmel is notably in hot water after joking about Melania Trump having “a glow like an expectant widow” soon after the failed assassination attempt in Washington DC. Kimmel’s remarks have since invited a sharp response from the US First Lady, urging ABC to once again cancel the comedian and talk show host.
So far, Jones hasn’t received this kind of backlash, likely due to her smaller Instagram audience. However, her joke has no doubt sparked off some serious comments asking about whether the assassination attempt was genuine or not, as one Reddit user questions, “Is there any actual evidence this was staged at all?” prompting a reply from another, “About as much as there is evidence it wasn’t staged.”
