Out of all the many new systems coming to Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred, the one players will want to get familiarized with the most is the Horadric Cube. This useful item will allow everyone to tinker with their gear to upgrade it, add new affixes, or even roll some weird new ones to craft a new, powerful armor piece. However, since it takes a while to obtain it, we’ve made a guide to show you how to unlock and use the Horadric Cube in Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred.
How To Unlock the Horadric Cube in Diablo 4
Without going into spoilers, especially since the quest leading to unlocking the Horadric Cube in Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred is full of them, all we can say is you need to reach the quest called Smothered Flame and complete it. Once you do it, the cube will become available for you to use in Temis, which is where the campaign will take you after this quest.
One important thing to note is that this quest is almost at the end of the expansion’s campaign, roughly at 90% of the whole campaign, so don’t expect to use this system right away like the Talisman. So, take your time with the new story, and you’ll eventually get this new mechanic.
How to Use the Horadric Cube
Using the Horadric Cube is a whole different beast, as there’s some RNG involved at first and a couple of things you need to learn before diving into this mechanic.
As you may already know, due to previous dev spotlights and showcases, the Horadric Cube allows you to fine-tune some of your gear, upgrade some items, and even roll for random affixes if you don’t mind some randomness in the process.
To get started, just head to the Horadric Cube in Temis, interact with it, and the UI from the above image will appear. From there, you can drag a piece of equipment, and it will show you what you can do with it. In our case, and as you can see in the image, we added a ring, and it allowed us to Transfigure it or Recycle it, but the options will vary depending on the item.
Depending on the option, you’ll need different types of Dust, which you can obtain through various activities. Once you have that currency, you can start modifying your gear. Most options involve some random affixes, but you can fine-tune the results by adding a Tuning Prism, meaning you can edit the affixes to the ones that you want.
At first, the system will feel a bit daunting, especially compared to others in Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred, but the truth is that it is simpler than you think, especially since the UI will always tell you what you can and can’t do. All you need to do is gather the necessary items and Prisms to craft that perfect armor piece or weapon.
