While many Americans are complaining about gas prices in the US, Florida content creator TONY’s viral post on X urges others to stay loyal to Trump and trust the process. Hitting well over 2 million views, the post explains why TONY is completely fine with filling up his truck without complaint: “because I trust my president.” Unfortunately for him, not everyone took kindly to his call to trust the administration, forcing him to fight the backlash.
Many users on X tried to use the post’s community note against him, but TONY clarifies it was a video of someone else blaming Gavin Newsom for California’s high gas prices. “I knew they would try to community note this because it triggered so many people. Give me a break,” he exclaimed. TONY later shared Grok’s claim of Newsom being responsible for the price hike: “That’s not an opinion. It’s fact,” he wrote.
On the bright side for the Florida content creator, there were plenty of X commenters who agreed with TONY’s statement about trusting Trump with gas prices. “Preach! I always trust my President. I’d rather pay a little more for a future free of being owned by foreign nations,” remarked a user. “Right there with you. Diesel ain’t cheap at the moment but we are protecting the USA,” chimed in another.
Some Commenters Argue Trust in Trump Isn’t Related to Paying for Gas
On the other hand, several people questioned TONY’s correlation between supporting Trump and paying for gas regardless of price. “Trust is fine but prices are driven by global supply, demand, and policy, not loyalty. Staying informed matters more than staying silent,” pointed out an X commenter. “Filling up your gas tank is not a sign of patriotism,” argued a second, adding how people who aren’t as wealthy as the middle and upper classes are suffering heavily.
In the end, any economic change that affects people’s finances will be a hot topic, with gas prices being a prime example. However, the politics behind the price changes will almost always spark a more heated debate, which TONY was ready for, based on his defensive reaction against the backlash.
