Minnesota Congresswoman Angie Craig is facing pushback online after she posted a video blaming the Trump administration for making life “unaffordable” in the state due to rising gas prices and the overall cost of living. The Democrat shared a less than 60-second clip on her official X account, lamenting the cost of fuel as she filled up her Jeep at a gas station in Minnesota’s 2nd District.
She said in her district, regular unleaded gasoline was selling for $4.29 per gallon. According to Craig, the five gallons she bought cost her $20, while filling the tank completely would cost her close to $100. “There’s a cost of living crisis in our nation,” Craig stated in the video. “That’s what Trump and this administration is bringing us.”
Craig also blamed US tensions with Iran as a factor driving gas prices up “exponentially.” She argued that the Trump administration should prioritize Americans struggling financially instead of engaging in what she described as a “reckless war” with Iran.
Netizens’ Reaction to the Minnesota Rep
The comments under her post were largely critical. Several netizens accused the Democrat of hypocrisy and blamed her party for the state’s economic struggles instead. “How much was it under Biden?? You had no trouble with the high prices then,” one person asked. Another wrote, “When we complained about the price of gas during the Biden era, we were told to get a Tesla!”
Some people alleged it was Minnesota’s own leadership and “corruption” that contributed to the state’s affordability problems. “Gaslighting 101. You cant have it both ways congresswoman. You cant allow the corruption in the state of Minnesota under your watch and then blame the president for the cost of anything,” one netizen commented. Someone else claimed, “Life in MN is unaffordable due to the Fraud allowed by democrats over the last decade.”
Other comments also shifted toward immigration and allegations involving the misuse of public funds. “Minnesota has been turning into a sewer ever since all you Democrats allowed the Somali community to steal 9 billion dollars of our money and get away with it,” one person said. Another added, “Thanks to the Somalis who have ripped us off! Just what is your plan other than bashing conservatives? Please explain.”
According to data from the EIA, Minnesota’s average gas price peaked at around $4.70 per gallon in June 2022 during the Biden administration and stayed relatively high throughout much of the year.
