Jennifer Lopez is getting bashed online again, even though all she did was walk out of a hotel in New York this time. In a recent viral video circulating online, the film and pop star can be seen waiting for civilians to clear the hotel exit before she walks to her car 20 feet away like a model on a catwalk, surrounded by photographers and guards. Hence, some social media users are accusing the superstar of turning a routine departure into a spectacle.
The clip, posted to Instagram by @jairo.media, shows Lopez leaving the Four Seasons Hotel New York on May 13 while in the middle of a promotional tour for her upcoming Netflix romantic comedy, Office Romance. In the footage, members of Lopez’s entourage and hotel guests walk out ahead of her as the singer remains in the lobby area, seemingly waiting for the sidewalk outside to clear.
Moments later, Lopez emerges wearing a camel-colored pencil skirt and a fur blazer with sharply pointed shoulders, confidently strutting toward a waiting vehicle while waving to fans and photographers gathered outside the Manhattan hotel. The seemingly staged moment quickly exploded online, racking up more than 4.7 million views within days and igniting a fierce debate about celebrity culture and image management.
Plenty of people have since mocked Lopez for turning a hotel exit into her own mini fashion show. “I did the same at Home Depot when I bought my new drill. It just felt right,” jokes one X user, while others were more open about their criticism of Lopez’s stunt, claiming, “JLo in her 60’s will be such a crazy and entertaining ride. She will make an even bigger embarrassment of herself than Madonna.”
Not fair to the hotel guests?
Some commenters also pointed out how turning a hotel exit into what appears to be an impromptu photo op is a bit of a hassle. Other guests would certainly be furious if an influencer did it, so why do celebrities get a pass? One commenter also pointed out just how rude the photographers were to one of the hotel guests.
“Did you hear the paparazzi prick tell that lady carrying her baby, ‘Lady, c’mon!?’ Someone needs to kick that punk in the [expletive],” according to an X user, while another wished she was that woman, “If I was her I would have really, really taken my time. There’s nothing more satisfying than annoying and delaying self-important people with fake self-righteousness.”
In the past, Lopez has faced accusations regarding paid and staged paparazzi photo ops for faux-candid moments, though it appears to be a common practice in the entertainment industry. It’s not clear whether the particular incident in the New York hotel was one of those moments or not.
