This article is over 7 years old and may contain outdated information.

Earlier this month we had an opportunity to talk to Alt Shift developer Frederic Lopez about their upcoming rogue-lite and tactical game, Crying Suns. In the interview, we learned a lot about the titles structure, inspirations, and vivid art style.

One week later we are about to learn a whole lot more, as the team has launched the Kickstarter for Crying Suns. To celebrate the campaign, an official trailer has been released, linked below.

But that is not all! Alongside the trailer comes a free playable demo. The demo will let players play through the first sector of the first chapter of the game. (The entire game will consist of 6 chapters, each composed of 4 sectors.)

While many have been excited for the title, including myself, Alt Shift was sure to detail a bit of back story on Crying Suns as well.

Crying Suns: A story-driven tactical rogue-lite

Explore a dying galaxy as Ellys Idaho, admiral of the NS-Odysseus Battleship.

You will encounter several gameplay phases:

  • Tactical Real Time with Pause fights,

  • Story events in which you have to choose an issue whose consequences can be positive or negative,

  • Planet exploration by your team, searching for resources,

  • Itinerary choices on a stars map, which is procedurally-generated at each run.

As a deep story-driven game experience, each successful run will uncover a part of the underlying truth about the fall of the galactic Empire.

Crying Suns will be available first on PC and Mac, with a plan to release the game on iPad soon after releasing the desktop versions.

At the moment, Crying Suns is scheduled for a released date around late 2018 or Early 2019, with a public listing price on Steam of $19.99. For more details on Tier listings, to back the project now, and play the aforementioned free demo, head over to the official Kickstarter page linked here.
