It is no secret that Sony has not wanted to play with others recently. For well over a year, from games to Rocket League to Fortnite, Sony has declined crossplay requests from Nintendo and Microsoft. They have even taken down active cross-platform play, proving it is as simple as flipping a switch. Now, it seems like Bethesda is having the same trouble when it comes to Fallout 76.
Bethesda director and executive producer Todd Howard recently spoke with the Germain gaming Gamestar.de. When he was asked about crossplay possibilities for the recently announced online multiplayer action role-playing Fallout 76, Howard spoke candidly.
“We would love that, but right now we can’t,” Howard said when asked about enabling crossplay. “Sony isn’t as helpful as everyone would like.”
But does that mean that not only could crossplay between Xbox and PC occur, but that the title could possibly come to the Nintendo Switch? Howard did state in the interview that Bethesda will “see what happens” when it comes to Sony, but gave no further indication of crossplay between any of the companies.
Sure, it doesn’t seem feasible from that statement that Fallout 76 could come to the Nintendo Switch, especially considering there are no plans to port Fallout 4 to the Switch. It is important to keep in mind that Bethesda has ported games to the console in the past (Skyrim, DOOM, Wolfenstein II), so releasing Fallout 76 on the console isn’t out of the question.
Fallout 76 is scheduled to release on November 14 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC
