Taylor Swift has big news for California. The 36-year-old singer has landed herself a new Hollywood deal with the Toy Story movie franchise, but her surprise announcement this week didn’t land her much praise. While some fans appeared to welcome the news, many wound up trashing the Grammy winner, with one user even calling it a “desperate marketing move.”
Taylor, who has been making pre-wedding headlines as she gears up to marry NFL player Travis Kelce, is now back in the news for confirming her new “I Knew It, I Knew You” song. The track will feature in the upcoming Toy Story 5 movie, and fan talk is of little else right now.
Taylor took to Instagram with a photo of herself posing amid grass and told fans, “You knew it,” before confirming her latest song. She added that she’s “always dreamed” of writing for the movie franchise’s characters and that she’s “adored” them since she was five years old.
Taylor Swift’s Music News Big For Hollywood, Fans Less Keen
“I wrote this song as soon as I got home from the screening,” Taylor Swift continued, also confirming that she’s seen the movie in its current state. The pop star’s Instagram share netted over 2 million likes in three hours, but the vibe absolutely wasn’t “liked” over on Reddit. Here, users ripped Taylor apart, with one replying:
“It’s all clearly a desperate marketing move. Her camp is hopeful that Swiftie moms will hype up the song and show it to their children and groom a new market for Swift as hers continues to shrink into pure niche.” Another user said that Taylor “keeps feeding them slop.”
Taylor Swift released her last The Life of a Showgirl album in October 2025. In August of last year, she made headlines for confirming her engagement to athlete Travis. Fans on Reddit also called Taylor out for not taking her last album on tour, but most just seemed out to hate on the Toy Story vibe.
“I JUST WANT HER TO GO AWAAAAYYYYYYY,” a further user stated. Despite the hate, Taylor’s Instagram post proved a hit, even garnering celebrity attention. Likes came in from singer Miranda Lambert, model Olivia Culpo, and actress Joey King. Taylor’s latest track is inspired by Toy Story‘s iconic character, Jessie the cowgirl. Fans even seemed to know everything Taylor has ever said, with one Reddit fan stating: “She’s never admitted to watching a movie before and now she’s loved Toy Story since 1995?“
California may be ready for Taylor Swift and her new beats, but it looks like fans have yet to make their peace with it. Elsewhere, the blonde is ramping up wedding talk ahead of her assumed July 3 wedding date. The singer is rumored to have ditched her initial Rhode Island venue for her nuptials, opting instead for a location that can accommodate more guests.
In her share today, Taylor also confirmed that fans can pre-order her track on her website. Toy Story will hit theaters on June 19.
