Illinois Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi stated that he will pursue a congressional subpoena of the Postmaster General and lead efforts to remove him from office if the Postal Service moves forward with President Trump’s plan to restrict mail ballot delivery. According to his post on X, no administration should use the Postal Service to make it harder for Americans to vote. The statement has drawn strong public reactions online, particularly amid concerns about election integrity and mail ballot verification.

The content was posted on X by the account of Illinois Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi. In the footage, Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi refers to a proposed rule published by Postmaster General Steiner and the Postal Service that would require states to hand over voter registration data. He notes that if states do not comply, mail-in ballots would not be delivered in the state.

He also cites Steiner’s recent Senate testimony, stating that the USPS will not deliver mail-in ballots if states do not provide the Trump administration with voter rolls. The congressman mentions that a district judge blocked Trump’s executive order on mail-in voting and the related proposed rule earlier that morning.

According to his remarks captured in the clip, he states, “Well, let me be clear. I think all of us, caucus, speak with one voice. Mr. Steiner, you are stepping on dangerous territory if you continue to move forward with this proposal despite the court’s ruling this morning.” He continues that, as a senior member of the oversight committee, he will move to subpoena Steiner and lead efforts to remove him from his post.

The accompanying X post includes this video along with a concise summary of his position. It is not clear from the footage alone whether the judge’s ruling directly halted the specific proposed rule or addressed the broader executive order.

Backlash and Debate Over Rep. Raja’s Call to Subpoena and Remove Steiner

Some commenters argued that the policy aims to verify eligible voters rather than restrict access. One wrote: “Hey *expletive* – they aren’t making it harder – they are actually confirming that actual living American Citizens are getting the ballots. My mother died in January 2020 – she has voted in every election in Georgia since then. I have filed affidavits, and nothing happens. Dead people can’t vote! Neither can illegals.”

Others questioned the congressman’s stance on election security. A user stated: “We the people voted for secure elections, why do you not stand with us? You support election fraud?”

Additional comments suggested he was mischaracterizing the purpose of the rules, with one saying, “Hey, Raja, you are lying. That is not the purpose…read the EO for yourself.”

Some responses focused on the Postmaster General, including one that noted: “At last the #Steiner betrayal of the #USPS is being addressed in Congress, if a little late. He should, of course, be removed from office, and criminal charges should be considered.”

The clip has become part of the ongoing national discussion over mail ballot rules and Postal Service procedures ahead of the elections. Public comments on the post reflect the range of perspectives shaping the broader debate.
