The pop superstar appeared in a pre-recorded video tribute during country legend Alan Jackson’s farewell concert at Nissan Stadium in Nashville on June 27. But the second her face flashed onto the giant screens, a wave of boos rolled through sections of the crowd, drowning out the start of her heartfelt message. Some fans cheered to counter it, but the jeers were loud enough that much of what she said was swallowed by the noise.

Jackson’s farewell was stacked with country royalty, with tributes from George Strait, Carrie Underwood, Luke Combs, and Miranda Lambert, plus video messages from Keith Urban and Kenny Chesney. Swift was the one whose appearance lit the fuse.
And fans immediately took sides. Some flipped the disrespect charge right back on her, with one calling the focus on Swift “so disrespectful against Alan” on his big night. Others were blunter: “Why was she even there?“
