A video was posted to the social media platform TikTok that provides additional details surrounding the protest that occurred at an ICE detention center in Prairieland, Texas, on July 4, 2025, and subsequent prison sentences that were only recently revealed. The event saw the arrest of over 22 protesters who received prison sentences as long as 100 years.
The majority of the video is read from a statement written by a protester who allegedly received a sentence of 100 years. Additional details about the background of the trial were revealed, and various commenters jumped into the replies to share their frustrations and opinions about the National Security Presidential Memorandum 7, countering domestic terrorism and organized violence.
The speaker of the video begins by prefacing that the protest initially happened on July 4, 2025, but the suspects were only recently receiving their sentences. One specific protester, Benjamin Song, allegedly fired a round at the ground near a police officer, reportedly striking the officer, and has since received a sentence of 100 years.
After the trial, Song wrote a statement that encompasses his feelings towards the situation. At one point, he explains that “I was told I had no right to protect myself or anyone else and they told me I wasn’t even allowed to say the word: self-defense.”
Song argues that the officer who was hit by the round was positioned to shoot his weapon at an unarmed protester. In an attempt to stop the officer, Song reportedly fired a round at the ground, which then hit the officer, who has since recovered from his injuries.
Concerning the National Security Presidential Memorandum 7, or NSPM-7, it is a presidential memorandum targeting protestors. The third line of the memorandum reads, “Heinous assassinations and other acts of political violence in the United States have dramatically increased in recent years.”
It then goes on to bring up the assassination of Charlie Kirk, the 2024 assassination of the United Healthcare CEO, and the two separate assassination attempts against President Trump.
Comments And Reactions Towards Prison Sentences of Protestors
After the statement is read, the woman narrating the video makes note of a gentleman who was arrested for moving a box of zines, whose husband was also arrested for simply being married to him, saying, “this case is just one of many targeting and locking up people for standing against injustice in this country. You don’t even have to be at the protest, and you can be sentenced to more time than any January 6-er did.”
This sentiment was shared by various commenters, who shared their frustrations in the replies below the video. Two of the very top comments reads, “Why are we still paying taxes,” and, “Wait what? 100 years? How is this possible?“
As the case continues to generate discussion online, it has also reignited broader debates surrounding protest rights, self-defense claims, and the government’s approach to combating domestic extremism.
