PlayStation and Xbox players all over the world will likely be racing through Vice City when GTA 6 launches this November. But if rumors are anything to go by, Nintendo fans might not have to watch from the sidelines. Multiple insiders have now claimed that Rockstar Games has been working on a Switch 2 version of GTA 6, and perhaps making sure it actually happens.
Recently, a Spanish insider called Nash Weedle said on X that ‘technical hurdles’ for a Switch 2 GTA 6 port have been overcome and subcontractor specialists have been brought in to work on it. Responding to this rumor, XboxEra co-founder Shpeshal Nick said that he hasn’t heard that such a project is officially happening. Nevertheless, there seems to be talk that Rockstar and Take-Two are trying to make it happen. “For what it’s worth, I haven’t heard ‘it’s coming’ but I’ve heard they’re working with Rockstar/Take-Two to try and make it happen,” he wrote on X.
While it’s all still just hearsay, what’s interesting is that a prominent leaker NateTheHate has claimed something similar. In late 2025, he said that Rockstar had been testing GTA 6 on the console’s hardware, though he stressed that internal testing doesn’t necessarily mean a release is planned. “I know an effort has been made to see if they can bring [GTA 6] to the [Switch 2]. I don’t know the current state of that effort,” he wrote back in November last year. “Experimenting doesn’t equal ‘in development’ & companies often test to see if a game is possible on hardware.”

Still, the idea of having a GTA 6 running on a Switch 2 isn’t as far-fetched as it sounds. After all, Nintendo has been aggressively courting third-party publishers for the console. So far, it has even secured day-one releases from major AAA franchises like Final Fantasy 7 Revelation and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Landing GTA 6 — even if it arrives together with PC months after the PS5 and Xbox versions — would be another huge win.
There’s also precedent for technically demanding games making the jump to Nintendo hardware. The Witcher 3, Star Wars Outlaws, and the upcoming Elden Ring and Dragon’s Dogma 2 have all managed to be scaled back to run on it. These technological achievements show that massive, ambitious open-world games can be adapted for the Switch 2 with enough work.
Of course, none of this confirms GTA 6 is indeed coming to Switch 2, especially with its November release date approaching. But if multiple insiders are hearing that conversations are happening behind the scenes, Nintendo fans probably shouldn’t write the possibility off just yet.
