The ongoing, heart-wrenching investigation into the kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie from her Arizona home, the 84-year-old mother of Today Show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, has devolved into a fierce war of sources between major news outlets and law enforcement sources. Now, new information reportedly indicates the random letters are real, not some elaborate hoax by a would-be trickster trying to get 15 minutes of fame.
According to an exclusive report from Reuters, the FBI officially deemed all three ransom notes connected to the case, including a recent message sent directly to TMZ, to be completely fraudulent. Citing high-level law enforcement sources, Reuters stated that investigators tracked the cryptocurrency demands and concluded that the correspondence originated from opportunistic extortionists entirely unrelated to Nancy’s January 31 abduction from her Tucson, Arizona home.
But now, TMZ’s recent post has information that contradicts their reporting. This is what their bombshell Tweet said.
Despite Reuters’ report that the Nancy Guthrie ransom notes are fake, TMZ’s law enforcement sources tell us they believe the notes are more than likely authentic.
Folks at TMZ then made calls to their local police sources to verify if what Reuters had claimed was indeed true. One FBI official allegedly told TMZ, “It is more likely than not that the two ransom notes are real“
Obviously, this is a bold and wild statement with serious implications for the case. This set off many concerned Arizona citizens, voicing their thoughts in the comments about one of their most famous locals being kidnapped the way she was.
“This is wild. With all the conflicting reports flying around, its hard to know what to believe anymore. Hoping the truth about Nancy comes out soon for her familys sake.”
“TMZ also believes you should forget about the Epstein emails and their owner being mentioned”
“This one dey messy. Interesting development if true, conflicting reports everywhere on this one. We need full clarity on this ASAP. If confirmed, this changes everything”
As the media giants go back and forth with their own insiders over the legitimacy of the notes, it doesn’t change what’s happened to her. Nancy Guthrie has been missing for five months; and a huge $1 million reward remains unclaimed, and local authorities are still desperately treating the case as an active, high-priority kidnapping.
