Maine concertgoers are still seeing red after Lil Wayne skipped his own show in Bangor on Tuesday night, and the rapper’s long-awaited apology is only half the story. Hours after finally addressing the no-show, the 43-year-old was photographed living it up at one of the summer’s most exclusive parties in the Hamptons.
The Bangor stop at the Maine Savings Amphitheater was supposed to launch his 20+ Years of Carter Classics tour. Opener 2 Chainz played his set as planned, and Wayne was scheduled to hit the stage around 10:45 p.m. Instead, the crowd waited through a lengthy delay before being told at about 11 p.m. that the show was over and the headliner was not coming. No explanation was given that night by Wayne or his team.
The rapper finally broke his silence on Instagram the next day. “My Maine fans I’m so sorry,” he wrote, confirming the show is being rescheduled to July 28 and that tickets will be honored. “I ain’t [expletive] without you. I can’t wait to come back and give you the show you deserve.*” He never said why he missed the gig.
Lil Wayne’s Hamptons Party Appearance Has Maine Fans Seeing Red
That same Wednesday night, TMZ reported Wayne was spotted at Michael Rubin’s star-studded Fourth of July White Party in the Hamptons alongside names like DJ Khaled and Alicia Keys. The outlet noted there is no confirmation the party had anything to do with the missed show, but for fans who drove hours to Bangor, the timing landed like salt in the wound.
Rita Sack, who traveled more than six hours from Nova Scotia, did not hold back to local station WABI. “Well, I came here for Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz, and it was the most terrible experience,” she said, adding, “We paid for Lil Wayne. Like, the least you can do is come out for a minute, apologize, you know?” Online, one fan called the night an “absolute slap in the face to Maine fans.” Still, the ride-or-dies remain. Makayla Sullivan, who has Wayne’s face tattooed on her side, laughed to WABI, “I’m going to see him in New Hampshire on Friday. Maybe he’ll show up.“
The frustration is amplified by a pattern. Wayne canceled a Toronto show last year after fans had already packed the venue, skipped a California festival in 2024, and walked out of a Los Angeles set in 2023. Waterfront Concerts president Alex Gray apologized to the Bangor crowd, saying nothing like this had happened in the company’s history. The tour rolls on to Saratoga Springs, New York, on Thursday. Maine will find out on July 28 whether the apology holds up.
