However, a recent sighting of Mariah Carey in California sent everyone questioning reality because she was spotted waiting in line at Disneyland. The celebrity sighting has since sparked debates online on whether it was really the diva they saw or if she has actually become more of a “normal” person now.
The incident occurred at Disneyland California Adventure in Anaheim, California, on July 4. Mariah Carey, 57, usually visits Disneyland on the 4th of July, but this time it seems different. TikTok user Brenda E managed to spot her patiently waiting in line along with regular people. Mariah could also be seen with her makeup artist, her personal assistant, and her child.
Many commenters have since assumed that it was for a ride and that Mariah Carey was “Waiting in line like everyone else? Respect if that’s the case.” X user Dom Lucre even claimed that a former employee at Disneyland said “she was always escorted to the front of the line and rode the rides by herself. Maybe she’s more humble now.”
Other people even accused the pop star and former diva of being supposedly irrelevant now, with harsh jokes such as “She’s broke, that’s why she’s not being escorted, that [expletive] is expensive.” Still, others were questioning why no one is freaking out at the presence of a celebrity, “those people are wayyy to calm standing in line with Mariah carey i would be playing vision of love.”
Not so normal after all
However, the TikTok user who spotted Mariah actually went in and clarified in one of the comments that “This wasn’t a ride.” She explained further that “it was the train that takes you around the park. She was on a vip tour her guide was an older man behind her team.” Another commenter reinforced the claim by posting another angle of the sighting where Mariah could be seen walking behind a man wearing a plaid vest and a white hat, a standard uniform for VIP tour guides in Disneyland.
Sadly, for people online, the illusion that Mariah was waiting in line for a Disneyland ride like a normal person was quickly shattered. Still, many commenters were surprised regardless, especially with the fact that nobody seemed starstruck at Mariah, even at the VIP tour line. Some fans even asked, “why is my queen waiting in this line?! lol.”
In the past, Mariah Carey was regarded as the quintessential “diva” with many critics seeing her as “arrogant,” particularly her style of humor, such as saying “I don’t know her” when asked about Jennifer Lopez. Sadly, fans expecting Mariah to act like a regular person without VIP treatment might never see it at all, as the celebrity still has an estimated net worth of $350 million.
