The first trailer for Netflix’s The Dragon Prince is here and it’s got Avatar: The Last Airbender vibes all over it. The short 45 second trailer aired at San Diego Comic-Con.
Created by head Avatar: The Last Airbender writer Aaron Ehasz, producer Justin Richmond and executive producer Giancarlo Volpe (Star Wars: The Clone Wars). The Dragon Prince follows two princes as the avoid death at the hands of an assassin.
Two human princes forge an unlikely bond with the elfin assassin sent to kill them, embarking on an epic quest to bring peace to their warring lands.”
The trailer features our first look at Prince Callum (Jack De Sena), Prince Ezran (Sasha Rojen), and the assassin sent to kill them, Rayla (Paula Burrows).
There are several similarities between The Dragon Prince and Avatar: The Last Airbender.ย ย Avatar featured abnormal animals such as a flying bison and flying lemur. The Dragon Prince also shows off strange creatures, such as a green and black bird, purple foxes, and the cutest glowing toad named Bait.
Magic plays a large part in the world of The Dragon Prince as well. Prince Callum and Ezran both possess some sort of arcane art as they are seen fighting in what looks like a crypt.
Another connection to Avatar is the Moonshadow Elf assassin Rayla draws her power from the moon. Which played a played a significant role inย The Last Airbender.
The series creators are using social media to give fans hints at new information, character details, and communicate with the community.
