One politician in Minnesota always has something spicy to say, and that’s outspoken Republican critic, Ilhan Omar. Rep. Ilhan blasted ICE in a recent post on X. The renewed call extends a months-long feud between Omar and the Department of Homeland Security that intensified after an ICE officer fatally shot her Minneapolis constituent, Renee Good, earlier this year. It only ratcheted up after a pair of recent ICE-related shootings.
In a post that gets right to the heart of the ICE-related issue, she said:
There’s no reforming this rogue and monstrous agency. The only way forward: Abolish and prosecute ICE.
It’s a very simple message, but it cuts out the fluff and goes right to the heart of her issues with the maligned agency. Omar has repeatedly called ICE a “rogue agency” beyond reform since Good’s shooting death and the killing of another Minneapolis resident, Alex Pretti, during immigration enforcement operations. She has previously called for the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and voted against DHS appropriations bills that included ICE funding.
She keeps her X profile private, which doesn’t allow anybody to comment, so no Republican official had responded to this specific post as of yet. “The radical ‘Abolish ICE’ crusade from far-left Democrats seemed like a relic of the past, but it’s the brand new litmus test for Democrats,” NRCC spokesperson Mike Marinella told CBS News previously.
On Monday, July 13, 2026, the fatal shooting involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents occurred, causing intense local outrage, national scrutiny, and immediate political fallout. This is why Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar took such a defiant stance to begin with.
This shooting marked the 11th fatal shooting by federal immigration officials since President Trump took office for his second term in early 2025, and the second ICE-involved killing in less than a week.
Due to the intense scrutiny surrounding these back-to-back incidents—and the fact that five of the fatal shootings involved people in moving vehicles, the Department of Homeland Security ordered ICE agents to suspend most vehicle stops. Minnesota won’t stop going after ICE, judging by Ilhan Omar’s consistent defiance towards them.
