A social post that was published to X by self-proclaimed ‘Freedom Aficionado’ Steve Loves Ammo accuses New York City, New York, Mayor Zohran Mamdani of giving his office a “20% taxpayer funded raise.”
Commenters were overwhelmingly critical of the situation, with many accusing Mamdani of hypocrisy and arguing that politicians who promote socialist policies should not seek higher salaries for themselves.
The video above was posted by Steve Loves Ammo and clarifies a different X post by Patrick Bet-David that states, “Did you know the Mayor of NY City makes more money than,” and then lists various other politicians.
Steve criticizes the allegation that Mayor Zohran Mamdani earns a yearly salary of $258,750, while other politicians, including Marco Rubio, earn as much as $20,000 less. Mamdani’s salary was revealed in June 2026 by Business Insider, where he was placed as the seventh highest-earning mayor with a city population of 8,584,629.
Of everyone featured on the list, Mamdani has the largest population, surpassing the next-largest, Los Angeles, California, by almost 5 million residents.
According to the rest of the post, “Mamdani’s self appointed committe is asking for an 18.2% raise for Mamdani and his elected officials. His new salary would be $305,800.” In BI’s list, that would place him as the fourth highest-paid.
In response to this, Steve says, “They are going to make themselves rich while they want you to turn down your air conditioner, pay more taxes, and get themselves rich. You get what you vote for.”
