Adam Carolla is now facing intense criticism after making controversial remarks about Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, and the former couple’s children during a recent episode of The Megyn Kelly Show, reigniting debate over one of Hollywood’s most closely watched family disputes. The Nevada-based celebrity has also made some shocking claims in defense of Pitt’s alleged “roughing up” of Angelina Jolie.
The comedian and podcast host, who has previously spoken favorably about Pitt, referred to Jolie as “nuts” and claimed she had “brainwashed” the six children she shares with the Oscar-winning actor. Carolla did not provide evidence for those assertions, presenting them as his personal opinion while discussing the former couple’s years-long legal battle.
However, it was another earlier comment that sparked the strongest backlash online. While discussing allegations surrounding a 2016 private jet incident involving Pitt, Jolie, and their children, Carolla suggested he would have ignored the situation had he been in the children’s position. “If my dad roughed up my mom, but I still got to fly private, I would probably look the other way,” he said, adding that he believed he would have stayed out of what he viewed as a conflict between parents.
The discussion stems from allegations surrounding a September 2016 private flight from France to Los Angeles. According to court filings made over the years, Jolie alleged that Pitt became physically abusive toward her and verbally abusive toward some of their children during the flight. Pitt has consistently denied abusing his family.
People online are calling out Carolla
Although no criminal case resulted from the investigations of such an accusation, the incident has remained a central issue throughout the former couple’s lengthy legal disputes involving custody matters and ownership of Château Miraval, the French winery they once jointly owned. The remarks quickly spread across social media platforms, where thousands of users criticized the comments as dismissive of domestic violence and the difficult position children can face when witnessing alleged abuse.
Reddit users overwhelmingly condemned Carolla’s remarks. One commenter wrote, “People are way too comfortable admitting they are terrible human beings out loud.” Another added, “Stay classy, Adam.” Others questioned why Carolla chose to publicly make the hypothetical comparison at all, with one user writing that it was “a very obtuse and tone deaf thing to say.”
Surprisingly enough, others defended Carolla, arguing he was expressing a personal opinion about family dynamics. Some criticized Jolie and her choices, “Jolie isn’t even her last name. It’s Voight like the name she denied,” while another agreed with Carolla, saying, “Thank you so much for calling attention to this topic. Parental alienation destroys lives.” Neither Jolie nor Pitt has responded to Carolla’s latest comments, but his statements have thrust their long legal saga back into the spotlight.
