A Washington man blasts polite southern racism, calling it “awful, disgusting behavior.” The topic came up after his daughter moved back from Florida, where her soon-to-be former in-laws are from. He claims they are “all nice and friendly Southern people when you meet them,” but that changes behind someone’s back.
He alleges that the in-laws have been in the same town for years, so everybody knows everybody. So when they see someone, they greet them with a handshake and a compliment. However, after they shake hands with a black person, they allegedly will “turn around [and] get the hand sanitizer out.” The Washington man also claims they’ll go, “I don’t like shaking those people’s hands.”
Additionally, the Washington man argues that it’s not just the former in-laws, but everybody in their Florida town. He says, “They all feel the same way about their black residents.” This behavior is something that he says gets under his skin: “It makes me want to throw up.” His biggest fear was that his daughter would end up behaving that way. So, he’s thankful she left and came back home. The man ends the TikTok by stating he believes the issue is more than just one town, but people’s hearts across the country, “especially the South, are just dark and full of hate.” The video has over 83,000 views, over 10,000 likes, and over 1,000 comments.
Many Appreciate Washington Man’s Directness
Others appreciate him being direct, while others agree about the hypocrisy, stating, “Polite racism is the worst cause those people smile in your face while you interact with them.” Several agree with the statements, saying, “They go to church on Sunday for forgiveness.” Another commenter says, “That’s the Bible Belt for ya.”
Meanwhile, others agree that it’s a bigger issue: “Not the whole town, the whole country!” Another adds, “The gentleman is speaking about, and I 100% say this, is accurate.” However, some have the same experiences with ‘polite racism’ and have the same level of anger. One commenter states that’s exactly how their Southern hometown is: “I wish I had a fire-breathing dragon I would burn that [expletive] UP!”
