North Carolina lawmaker Erin Pare wrote a Facebook post in which she calls out an unnamed transgender teacher in an unknown school she had allegedly been receiving calls about. In response to these calls, she proposes introducing a bill that would require gender-appropriate attire in the Wake County Public School System.

Various commenters disagreed with this notion, stating that it would only cause further confusion among staff and students. Others believed it to be a necessary change, and one that will inevitably be put into practice sooner or later.

Erin Pare is a member of the North Carolina General Assembly, representing the state’s 37th House district as a Republican. In her post, she calls out alleged concerns at a school within the Wake County Public School System.

She writes, “I’ve received your emails and phone calls about the hiring of a transgender biological male, who dresses as a woman, music teacher, in one of our local elementary schools. I have brought your concerns to the attention of the Wake County Public School System leadership.“

For additional context, various laws have been implemented in recent years that have targeted transgender individuals. For example, in 2023, Arkansas passed House Bill 1233 which allows teachers the right to misgender people. Three years later, Louisiana passed a law that would allow employers and co-workers to harass trans employees.

In response to the teacher she is referring to, Pare write, “I’ll keep you updated. May be time to introduce a bill requiring gender-appropriate professional attire for public school employees, as WCPSS does not have a policy addressing this issue – as far as I can tell.“

Comments and Reactions to North Carolina Lawmaker Against Trans Teachers

Under the Facebook post, various commenters disagreed with lawmaker Erin Pare. One person even wrote, “I ask in earnest- who is it hurting if someone wears a dress to work despite having been born a man- as long as they’re a good teacher? I’m truly confused what it is the kids need ‘protecting’ from. Is that teacher abusing the kids? Molesting them? Failing to educate them? Going to school naked? THOSE would seem like major causes for concern. But I’m puzzled by the fuss over a skirt.”

In a Reddit post concerning this issue, others felt that this was a blatant attack on the teacher’s rights, as another commenter wrote, “Seems like very obvious First Amendment issues there. Not to mention a passing trans person in the opposite gender clothing would cause WAY more discussions.”

Currently, comments and reactions continue to fill the comments sections of both the Facebook and Reddit posts as they continue to go viral.
