Rep. Lauren Boebert is facing renewed scrutiny after her 21-year-old son, Tyler Boebert, was arrested in Colorado on multiple felony charges involving the alleged exploitation of a minor. However, Rep. Lauren’s problems don’t appear to end there, as some of her fiercest critics are intent on reminding everyone of her family’s issues, along with her son’s previous charges.
Tyler was arrested Sunday and released the same day on a $10,000 bond, according to the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office. Court records show he faces five new felony charges, including exploitation of a child with enticement, exploitation of a child involving video, and possession of child abuse material with intent to distribute. He also faces two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Investigators identified 16 videos and images involving minors. The affidavit alleges that one video showed Tyler, who was 18 at the time, having intercourse with a 17-year-old girl. Authorities accuse him of producing, possessing, and distributing exploitative material.
Tyler has also faced other legal problems. In 2024, he pleaded guilty to attempted identity theft following allegations involving vehicle break-ins and stolen identification documents. He was placed on probation. He also pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor child-abuse negligence charge connected to an incident involving his young son. The sentencing is scheduled for September.
Lauren Boebert, who is seeking reelection in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District, responded to the latest allegations in a statement to Colorado Public Radio. “I love my son. We take these allegations very seriously and pray for everyone affected during this challenging time,” she said.
No end in sight for anti-MAGA sentiments
The case quickly sparked an angry response online. Critics are connecting the allegations to Boebert’s past political stance about protecting children and promoting traditional family values. “Once again: not a drag queen,” one Reddit user wrote, referring to Boebert’s past attacks on drag performances. Another commenter wrote, “For ‘family first’ MAGA sure seem to be [expletive] parents.”
Some comments went even further. One social media user stated, “The whole family are creeps,” after pointing out certain allegations, such as Boebert’s husband’s public indecency and Lauren’s alleged viral and raunchy night out. Another sarcastically asked whether the latest allegations were proof that it was “not drag queens assaulting kids,” with a similar sentiment writing, “Take your children to CHURCH, not drag bars.”
In any case, Tyler is scheduled to appear before Judge Jill McConaughy in Garfield County on August 19. The allegations remain accusations, and he has not been convicted of the newly filed charges. Meanwhile, the case adds another complication for Boebert as she campaigns for another term in Congress.
