Brad Pitt spent seven years making sobriety one of the defining chapters of his post-divorce reinvention. Angelina Jolie reportedly has a much colder reaction now that the California actor has revealed he is drinking again.
The 62-year-old Oscar winner made the surprising admission during a new Esquire interview, saying he had been sober for seven years before getting “back off the wagon.” Pitt stressed that he now drinks in a “more restrained manner” and understands that consuming too much does not work for him.
According to Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice, however, a source described as close to Jolie claims the actress was anything but surprised.
“Angelina’s attitude is simple: ‘I told you so,’” the insider alleged.
The source went further, claiming Jolie does not believe her ex-husband has “fundamentally changed” and has no desire to get dragged back into his personal drama. Jolie herself has not publicly commented on Pitt’s latest drinking admission.
The revelation lands differently because alcohol was closely intertwined with one of the darkest chapters of their notoriously bitter breakup.
Brad Pitt’s Drinking Admission Becomes Instant Meme Fodder
Social media wasted little time turning Pitt’s return to alcohol into entertainment.
One X user shared a television reaction clip declaring, “I retired from not drinking,” while others reached into Pitt’s own movie catalog for jokes, repeatedly posting memes and images from Fight Club and Seven.
The reactions underscored how surprising some fans found the admission after Pitt spoke so openly for years about sobriety and the personal rebuilding that followed his divorce.
That transformation began after Jolie filed for divorce in September 2016 following the family’s infamous private-plane trip. Jolie later made serious allegations about Pitt’s behavior during the flight. Pitt denied abuse allegations, and federal authorities ultimately closed their investigation without filing charges.
Pitt subsequently stopped drinking and spent roughly a year and a half participating in a 12-step recovery program. He publicly described sobriety as an important turning point in his life.
Seven years later, Pitt says he believes his relationship with alcohol is different. He admitted becoming “overconfident” on a couple of occasions before realizing that drinking heavily still does not work for him.
His divorce from Jolie may finally be over, but their disputes have continued elsewhere, including the long-running Château Miraval battle.
Pitt believes seven sober years taught him his limits. If the latest report from Jolie’s camp is accurate, she apparently believes his newest admission proves something very different.
