An Iowa creator thought she was attending a church service. Instead, she says she found herself watching a kiss cam before a hot dog launcher made an appearance. The unexpected experience quickly divided TikTok between viewers who accused the church of turning worship into entertainment.

Posted to TikTok by @meres__spam, the video opens with the creator asking, “What is happening?” as a kiss cam appears on the church’s projector.

The church camera then cuts to a couple in the congregation as a staff member says, “The suspense is killing me, guys.” The couple kisses, drawing applause from the audience before the camera moves on to two more couples.

The reason for the unusual segment isn’t revealed until moments later, when the staff member announces, “Another thing that happens at a baseball game is the hot dog gun comes out.” A man then begins launching hot dogs into the congregation before the clip ends.

The Iowa creator later made it clear she wasn’t trying to shame the church. In a follow-up, she said she was simply sharing an experience. She called it “VERY out of the ordinary” compared to what she was used to..

Not Everyone Was Saying Amen

The viral church clip sparked debate over whether modern churches have completely lost the plot.

For many self-identified religious viewers, the baseball-themed service crossed a line. They argued it diminished what they believe should be a place of worship. “Why are we making a mockery of God for like a kiss cam? That’s gross,” one commenter wrote. Another simply added, “Playing in God’s face…“

The criticism didn’t stop with religious viewers. Some non-religious commenters also questioned whether churches rely too heavily on spectacle to keep people engaged.”That’s how you know just preaching about what’s in the Bible is boring. They need some sort of entertainment to keep people interested,” one user wrote.

That criticism quickly drew pushback from people who felt outsiders were unfairly policing how Christians choose to worship.”It’s sad seeing so many people judge this church. Some of the same people who say they don’t believe in God are suddenly trying to tell Christians how they’re supposed to act in church,” another commenter wrote.

Others argued the outrage was overblown and that the viral clip lacked important context.”Seems to me they were having some kind of baseball theme. I highly doubt it was as weird as it seems from a one minute clip,” one viewer wrote. Another added, “I’m sure the kiss cam was put onto people they knew were married. It’s funny. Idk why you’re making it weird lol.”

The kiss cam may have began the conversation, but religion has always been one of the internet’s biggest flashpoints. So it didn’t take long for commenters to start arguing over how faith should be practiced.
