Plenty of people already have their reservations about the military, considering the current political climate, but what one Oregon high school did to one of its students left a mother quite infuriated. Going by the username Perfect-Hamster-141 on Reddit, the mother shared a photo of a letter on r/Infuriating. The printed message was an apology and notice that school staff had given the personal information of the woman’s daughter away to a military recruiter, “against her wishes.”
Perfect Hamster says she’s tried her best to keep her daughter off the grid since she was born. The girl hasn’t had social media until now; her mom even made sure her phone number and address haven’t been shared online, besides with close friends. “We have made sure that it’s hard to find information about her, which is why I’m upset that the information we trusted her school with was given away so freely, accidentally or not,” the mother griped.
This wasn’t a verbal agreement either, as Perfect Hamster claims she signed formal paperwork to make sure her daughter’s info was not given to recruiters. While her frustration about the situation is understandable, many Redditors reacting to her post were more apathetic, if not saying the school did the right thing by having the Chief Accountability and Equity Officer send a written apology.
Redditors Were Mostly Indifferent, If Not Supportive of the Oregon School’s Response to the Military Recruiter Info Leak
“I mean it’s good they caught it and didn’t sweep it under the carpet,” remarked one person, with over a hundred upvotes of agreement. “Government already has your information, nothing is going happen,” coldly said another. “ Honestly, who cares if they share this information with recruiters? Oh, that is right, people who are miserable and hate our country,” wrote a hostile third.
It should be noted that the school’s apology wasn’t just a simple “we’re sorry” either. The head staff member claims the military recruiter has been requested to delete the daughter’s information. Measures have also been allegedly put into place to ensure something like this won’t happen again.
All things considered, it’s a somewhat ideal outcome to a frustrating situation, though no one would blame the daughter and mother if they have trust issues with the school moving forward.
