A Pennsylvania woman was shocked to find a hateful letter waiting for her after moving into a new home with her wife. The message appeared to target the couple because they are an LGBT family, turning what should have been an exciting start in their new neighborhood into an unsettling experience. The incident has since drawn widespread support online.
The video was shared by Sarah, who posts on TikTok under the username @flannelsallday. Her videos about the incident received hundreds of thousands of views, with commenters expressing anger over the letter and support for the couple.
Sarah explained that she and her wife had just returned from a trip and were finally spending their first full day in the house after making renovations, painting, and bringing in new furniture. While checking their mail, Sarah found a letter that she initially assumed was a friendly welcome from a neighbor.
Instead, the message simply told the family they were not welcome in the town. The Pennsylvania woman believed the letter was connected to the small Pride flag she had placed in the front yard. The flag was relatively small, standing only about as tall as a bush, making the apparent reaction even more surprising to her.
In a follow-up video, Sarah said she filed a police report. She admitted that she initially worried the police might not take her complaint seriously, but said officers told her that her concern was valid. She also said the person who sent the letter was being notified.
Rather than letting the incident stop her from enjoying her new home, Sarah also came up with a much more humorous security plan. She said she planned to place a Julie Andrews cutout behind a window to scare off anyone who might try to harass them again.
