Rapper and influencer Blueface, aka Johnathan Michael Porter, is going viral once again after posting a controversial streaming session in California where he argued fiercely with a female fan. Their topic? Racism, and whether Black people can be racist or not, because, according to the woman, they are “oppressed.” Sadly, the discussion couldn’t stay amicable between the two and resulted in Blueface dropping the woman off. The rapper, however, was left to contend with the online fallout of their argument.
The incident occurred earlier in August during one of Blueface’s Kick streams in Los Angeles, California. In the clip, the rapper could be seen with an entourage of female fans in his car. Apparently, Blueface gave a compliment to a woman, which for many might seem backhanded, since he told her she “looks good for a dark-skinned woman.” The woman then ended up calling Blueface a “colorist” for what he said.
Somehow, the rapper accused his female fan of “taking colorist, and turning it into racism,” where the female fan ended up explaining the definition of racism, calling it something White people do. At this point, their discussion veered off into another tangent as Blueface disputed that “You don’t have to be White to be racist… so Black people can’t be racist?!” Something the woman stood by.
The woman further argued that Black people can’t be racist while Blueface kept shouting, “Black people can be racist!” at her. The exchange went on for several minutes, with the rapper insulting the woman due to her young age, even saying, “You so dark, you dumb,” until he eventually stopped the car and told her to get off near the side of the road.
People online are divided
Blueface went on to rant about the woman’s opinions after dropping her off abruptly, and likewise, the internet was up in a tangle trying to prove who was right between the two Black people arguing about racism. On the one hand, some supported Blueface’s claim, pointing out to his past, “Blueface won the argument. He know BLACK people can be racist because he’s been behind bars in California prison system which is heavily divided based off of race.”
Another added that, ironically enough, the racism can come from people of all skin colors, “It’s literally [expletive] to believe that you can’t be racist lmao everyone an be racist.” Still, Blueface was criticized by others for mocking the woman. One person even argued that, “‘You so dark you dumb’ is a crazy statement when you are trying to defend yourself from colorist allegations.”
Meanwhile, some argued with the woman, writing “& saying someone is ‘pretty for a dark-skinned girl’ is colorist because the compliment implies that being dark-skinned is generally associated with being less attractive, and that she is an exception. This is a textbook example of colorism. He’s so ignorant I can’t.” In any case, Blueface’s opinion on the matter continues to fuel the online discourse on whether people of color can be racist or not.
