Gamers’ eyes are pointing towards Grand Theft Auto 6‘s November release, for better or worse. But it seems Rockstar Games has no intention of jumping ship from GTA 5 just yet. Who would? The game reportedly rakes in close to $500 million each year, and Rockstar seems keen to keep that money machine running. To help with that, it collaborated with the popular GTA Online nopixel V roleplay server, which is launching in closed beta on the Rockstar Games Launcher on September 8.
On the project’s website, nopixel V is being pitched as ‘the next evolution of GTA RP’ with the new version promising plenty of upgrades. Beyond giving players more places to cause trouble in Los Santos, the roleplay server will feature new ways to get around ‘by land, sea, and air.’ New locations will be added too, with ‘richly detailed interiors’ and a refreshed city designed to make it feel more alive.
That’s not all, as nopixel V promises some graphical enhancements to improve ‘immersion’ when roleplaying as well. Visiting the page also shows a countdown toward a first-look trailer releasing on September 1st.
The announcement comes a couple of months after dataminers discovered references to ‘nopixel V’ in Rockstar Launcher codes. Nopixel logo was also found adorning unused image assets hidden in the launcher. Many quickly suspect that Rockstar was preparing to bring the famous RP server onto its platform officially.
Of course, bringing a roleplay server into GTA‘s official launcher is rather interesting, considering Rockstar’s long ‘relationship’ with the RP community. The company has been butting heads against various roleplay servers for years until it relented and acquired Cfx.re, the team behind FiveM, in 2023. Nevertheless, since then, Rockstar has made it clear that it wants to support creators building experiences around its games.
With GTA 6 still months away and its PC version nowhere in sight, Rockstar clearly isn’t ready to let GTA 5 quietly ride into the sunset. And with nopixel V now officially joining GTA Online, Los Santos still has plenty of life left in it.
