While “the Karen” gets a bad rap online, sometimes they have valid reason to be upset, and one California woman definitely had every right. Going by SoberSequoia on Reddit, she alleged quite the tale of some troublesome children plucking her flowers. Now, the young girls likely didn’t know any better, but it was the mother’s reaction that got SoberSequoia’s blood boiling.

The drama began when a woman was walking by with her two kids, SoberSequoia began. Then, one of the children decided to pluck one of OP’s roses, to which, understandably, she asked they don’t do that. “She said okay, crumpling the flower before placing back on the stem.” But wait; it gets worse.

The Girls Came Back for Round 2 of Yanking the Homeowner’s Flowers

It wasn’t long before the woman’s two girls came back, and this time, SoberSequoia says she “yanked a lily from the walkway right outside my door, one that I love to see blooming.” OP didn’t hesitate to address the source of the troublemaking, the mother, by warning her about her children’s behavior. “She seemed almost irritated that I even spoke to her,” SoberSequoia recalled.

OP admits her scolding might have made her come off like a “grumpy old woman,” but she also wasn’t pleased to parent someone else’s children who were destroying her property. Needless to say, Reddit was on her side. “I wish people would leave plants alone and just enjoy them when walking past,” sighed a commenter.

“I don’t know where you live, but in my state that’s grounds for someone to be shot for trespassing,” grimly remarked another. “The entitlement of some people!” A third accused the mother of “disgusting behavior.” “What a terrible lady for making the kids think that’s okay to do,” they exclaimed.

A fourth chimed in, adding how it’s not about just disturbing or hurting a flower; they were destroying someone’s precious garden. “It’s important to the person who planted it. The parent should be teaching their kids to respect others and that it’s not okay to just take things without asking,” they expressed thoughtfully.

With all the support and calls to better parenting, SoberSequoia couldn’t agree more. “It’s all about respect,” she wrote in response. “Sure, I love seeing and hearing the kids play outside, but this was just rude and inconsiderate behavior, and the mother was so nonchalant about it, like she couldn’t care less.”
