Florida Rep. Byron Donalds Faces Backlash for Blaming Biden Over U.S. Military Problems: ‘That’s Not Accountability, That’s a Permanent Excuse’

Two years in, still Biden?

Florida Rep. Byron Donalds clashed with an MS NOW host over who is responsible for current U.S. military problems. The exchange began with the USS Abraham Lincoln’s record-length deployment and President Donald Trump’s response. Donalds defended the administration while repeatedly pointing to problems inherited from the previous administration.

The discussion aired on MS NOW as Donalds addressed the carrier’s deployment and its nearly 5,000 crew members.

Asked whether he agreed with Trump that the deployment was “not nearly long enough,” Donalds declined to assess the decision.

“I’m not in charge of military deployments,” he said, pointing instead to Trump’s authority as commander-in-chief.

Donalds also called Florida the nation’s most veteran-friendly state and described service members’ conditions and retirement as priorities.

The discussion then shifted to military morale and recruitment. Donalds argued both had improved significantly compared with three years earlier.

He blamed the previous administration for low recruitment and morale during that period.

When the host tried to return to current military conditions, Donalds pushed back.

“No, we are talking about what’s going on today,” he responded.

Donalds argued that current leaders still had to repair damage caused by earlier policies. He blamed “terrible economic policy, terrible military policy” and “terrible border policy” on the previous administration.

Reversing those policies would take time rather than happen “immediately on day one,” he added. The host challenged that argument by pointing to Trump’s time back in office.

“Obviously the president’s been in office for nearly two years,” host Peter Alexander said, adding that some could argue the problems were now Trump’s responsibility.

Byron Donalds Draws Criticism Over Blaming Biden for Military Problems

The exchange prompted criticism on X, where users questioned Donalds’ continued focus on the previous administration.

One user pointed directly to Trump’s time in office: “Nearly two years in and the default answer is still ‘Biden’s fault.’ That’s not accountability, that’s a permanent excuse.”

Another questioned the connection between Biden and the carrier’s current situation: “What happened 3 years ago has nothing to do with resupplying a ship that has been at sea for over 200 days. C’mon now. . .”

A separate response asked, “What was Biden supposed to have done to the military?

Another user mocked the recurring focus on the former president: “Without blaming Biden, these folks ain’t got much.”

The dispute leaves responsibility for current military conditions at the center of the political argument nearly two years into Trump’s term.
