A woman in Chicago, Illinois, was scared out of her mind when she discovered she wasn’t the only one inside her car enjoying the music blasting from the speakers. Her unexpected companion happened to be a cicada, which she spotted sitting near the driver’s side of the windshield. The insect terrified her so much that she pulled over, jumped out of the vehicle and started calling for help.

Luckily for her, a police car happened to pass by, and she managed to flag down the officers for assistance with her tiny emergency.

The woman captured the hilarious ordeal on video and shared it on TikTok. By the time the officers came to her rescue, however, there was one slight problem. The cicada was no longer where she had last seen it and was now nowhere to be found.

One of the officers searched through her vehicle with a flashlight while the woman joined in with her phone light. She also came armed with one of her shoes, although judging by how quickly she had abandoned the car in the first place, getting close enough to actually use it may have been another matter entirely.

The woman cautiously returned to the driver’s seat to continue looking. After searching for a short while, she suddenly backed away from the car and yelled for the officer to come over. Apparently, she had spotted the cicada again. The officer, who seemed thoroughly amused by the woman’s reactions, laughed as he headed back over to investigate.

This time, they had their culprit. Using a long object to reach inside the vehicle, the officer managed to get the cicada out of the car and send it flying away.

The woman’s relief was immediate. She started loudly thanking the officer as though he had just rescued her from something far more dangerous than an insect. She even sought a little validation for her reaction, asking him to confirm that the cicada had, in fact, been big.

Finally, with her unwanted passenger gone, she was able to climb back into her car and continue on with her night.

Netizens Couldn’t Stop Laughing at the Illinois Cicada Rescue

The woman’s dramatic reaction and the officer going along with the unusual request had viewers thoroughly entertained.

“This whole thing has me ROLLING! I just know you made their night,” one person wrote. Another admitted, “Girl I’m here eating lunch and u just had me spill my tea on me.”

“He scared, you scared, i’m scared,” a third joked. Someone else commented,“He’s going to be telling this story his entire career AND THEN after he retires.”

Plenty of viewers couldn’t fault the woman for panicking either. “Ngl woulda had the same reaction if a cicada got in my car,” one netizen confessed. Another agreed, “Yes it is that serious!!! I would have done the same.”

Others gave the officer his flowers for actually taking the call for help seriously. “He’s such a real one for helping you I would’ve drove [sic] off and left you there to figure it out,” one viewer remarked. “He served and protected, good job officer,” another added. Someone else joked, “THIS is what I want my tax dollars to be towing [sic] towards.”

A police-assisted cicada eviction appears to be exactly the kind of entertainment TikTok needed. The video has since gone viral, racking up more than 2 million views and over 400,000 likes.
