A California woman appears to have found her own version of a lazy river, and somehow chose the Los Angeles River. A video shared on TikTok by @Montel shows the woman casually floating down the river’s concrete channel with no raft, tube, or any other flotation device.
People watching from the riverbank immediately start yelling in disbelief. “There is no way this woman is in the water right now!” one person says as the woman is carried along by the current.
And she does not seem remotely bothered.
When the people filming ask where she is going, she casually responds, “I’m floating! I’m getting carried…” She then appears to check in on her stunned audience with, “How are y’all doing today?” as if she is enjoying a perfectly normal afternoon float.
Meanwhile, the people filming sound like they are watching someone make the worst decision of the summer.
The clip has an overlying text that reads “Real Life GTA” because of the LA River’s famous concrete channel, which looks remarkably like the version seen in Grand Theft Auto games.
The real river, however, is not exactly a swimming pool. Los Angeles officials allow certain recreational activities, including kayaking and fishing, in designated sections, but swimming in the LA River is prohibited. The city also tests the water for bacteria such as E. coli and other potential contaminants, and advises people to avoid contact with the water after rain because runoff can bring additional pollutants and bacteria into the river.
None of that seems to have made it onto this woman’s itinerary.
In the video, she simply keeps floating along while wearing a hat and apparently enjoying the ride like she booked a river cruise.
Internet Reacts to Viral California River Video
Commenters flooded the video with reactions, many joking about the health risks involved. “Her immune system is stronger than the Hulk,” one person wrote. Another pointed out her preparation, joking, “She got a hat and sunscreen on. She prepared for this ride.”
Others leaned into secondhand disgust. “Being in the LA River is diabolical,” one commenter wrote, while another added, “I feel like I’m catching every disease just from watching.”
A few embraced the chaos entirely, with one writing, “They see me floating they hating,” and another simply summing up the mood as, “Me when I finally lose me mind.”
At least she had sunscreen. Her choice of waterway, however, remains a little harder to defend.
