Despite being out of One Direction for more than a decade, singer and pop star Zayn Malik is still going viral. This time around, Malik, a Pennsylvania resident, came out with a political statement against the Immigration and Customs Enforcement in the US (ICE). On top of the criticisms toward ICE, the shirt also quoted Billie Eilish, who famously stated in the recent past that “No one is illegal on stolen land,” a statement that has led to controversy.
The Pennsylvania-based star took to Instagram recently and posted a photo of himself driving an off-road vehicle while wearing a shirt that says “All My Homies Hate ICE,” with additional text underneath saying “No one is illegal on stolen land.” Malik, 33, has chosen a quiet farm life on his estate in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, after his rather successful career as a teen singer.
It’s worth noting the post wasn’t exactly and deliberately aimed at condemning ICE, but rather at giving away Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta codes to his fans. Still, numerous people have seen Malik’s post as a political statement that echoes Billie Eilish’s opinions against ICE. Eilish, for the record, went viral in February 2026 during her Grammy acceptance speech, where she famously spoke out against ICE.
Malik’s post has since gone viral, with numerous people praising his involvement in such a political situation, while also being “always on the right side,” presumably of history, according to X comments. Naturally, however, such a polarizing political topic has invited naysayers to Malik’s statement, especially since his shirt is also quoting Eilish’s controversial statement.
Malik’s shirt led to debates
Many of the social media users have commended Malik for taking a stance on the issue of immigration enforcement in the US, just as Eilish did. “The ‘no one is illegal on stolen land’ goes hard. Mad respect for him,” says one Reddit user, while another even stated newfound respect for the singer, saying, “Not a Zayn fan but that’s an excellent shirt.”
Interestingly enough, Malik so far hasn’t received the same backlash as Eilish did when others pointed out that Eilish’s mansion was built on former Native American land. Malik’s Pennsylvania estate also once belonged to the Native Lenape People of North America, who were effectively pushed out after deceptive purchase practices during the colonial era.
Others, however, attacked Malik with accusations such as, “He hate ice @zaynmalik but he looooves opioids and hitting women !” This was in reference to allegations involving Yolanda Hadid, Gigi Hadid’s mother, something Malik denied. In any case, Malik’s shirt was seen by many as an explicit confirmation of his political stance towards immigration, which would be a first for the former One Direction star if he does indeed feel that way.
