Colorado Governor Slammed As Tina Peters Could Work in Elections Again: ‘I will never forgive Polis for this’

Was this Jared Polis’ worst mistake?

Tina Peters could reportedly work in the 2026 election after Colorado Governor Jared Polis offered her clemency following her charges of tampering with election equipment in 2020. The news sparked major backlash against the Colorado governor, as many considered him directly responsible if this development occurs.

As reported by the Colorado Sun, Tina Peters’ current parole following her previous nine-year sentence does not interfere with her ability to work in elections, as her parole agreement does not contain any official restrictions.

Reportedly, officials from Shasta County, California, have expressed interest in hiring her as a consultant or assistant registrar before the 2026 midterms. However, no formal job offer has been made yet.

Peters formerly worked as a Mesa County clerk and was convicted of tampering with election equipment during the 2020 election, which became a high-profile case, as even U.S. President Donald Trump argued for her freedom. Earlier this year, Gov. Jared Polis commuted her sentence.

Colorado Still Blames Polis for Pardoning Tina Peters

On Reddit’s r/Colorado, locals were angry to discover that Peters could still work in elections and directly blamed the governor for commuting her sentence. One of them wrote: “Polis is going to go down as one of the worst governors in Colorado history. Not because of this. Peters was just the cherry on top of everything.” Someone else added: “Polis should never hold public office again.”

Overall, users were very angry to see Peters potentially free to tamper with elections once more and very disappointed with the current leadership of Colorado: “The Legacy Of Jared Polis. This is it. Nobody will ever remember him for anything except being a spineless coward.”

A few locals did not believe it was out of ‘cowardice‘ that he did this, though. As one put it: “He hangs out with Thiel et al. and was on Ron Paul’s freedom caucus when he was a House Rep. It doesn’t have to be ‘dirt they have on him.’ As George Carlin famously said: ‘It’s a big club, and you ain’t in it.’ Polis is very much in the big club.”

It remains to be seen whether Tina Peters will actually be hired by anyone to work in elections, but it seems that the damage to Polis’ reputation has been done. As one local said: “I will never forgive Polis for this.”
