Governor Whitmer Under Fire After Michigan Ranks as the Least Hard-Working State in America: ‘Democrat Voters are the Least Hard-working of Them All’

Do you agree with that?

Michigan has once again been recorded as the least hard-working state in America, according to a new ranking. It’s prompted strong reactions from Michigan residents, many of whom seem to consider Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s administration as the culprit behind these numbers.

The study was conducted by WalletHub, and it compared all 50 states across 10 different metrics in two key categories: direct work factors and indirect work factors. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, and Michigan ranked last, with only 27.32 points. Reportedly, this is the second consecutive year in which Michigan has appeared in this position.

The same study ranked Oregon as the second least hard-working state, while South Dakota appeared as the hardest-working one.

Internet Reacts to Michigan Being the Least Hard-Working State

Internet users had diverse reactions to the ranking, with many on X blaming the Democratic Party for Michigan’s poor position. One seemingly conservative user blamed the Whitmer administration, saying said: “Democrat voters are the least hard-working of them all. And dem politicians know it. That’s why they fight tooth and nail to continue and expand on every tax dollar-funded giveaway. Like SNAP, ‘free’ school lunches, and welfare. The list is almost endless.”

Others chimed in as well: “The only reason Michigan people would be considered the ‘hardest working’ is because we have to work this hard to survive under all this taxation and theft by the state government.” Some folks agreed: “Democrats definitely benefit from having [expletive] lazy voters.”

However, the reaction on the more liberal-leaning Reddit community r/Michigan was quite different. On a thread commenting on the news, the most upvoted comment was: “Nice.” Almost as if guessing the conservative response on X, one user responded: “Until Republicans use it to say Whitmer and our assistance programs are the issue, implying everyone just gets benefits. Even if it’s not what it says. They’ll SAY it does.”

Other Redditors were positive about the ranking, too. One of them said: “This translates to ‘most efficient workers in the nation.’”

It’s likely that WalletHub will conduct the study once more in 2027, and it remains to be seen whether Michigan will improve in the ranking or continue to lag behind the rest of the country.
