A woman in Atlanta, Georgia, caught her neighbor taking a package from outside her apartment door. The neighbor later returned the package after being told a police report had been filed, but the situation did not end there. She eventually sent the woman a letter apologizing and explaining why she believed she had taken the package.
TikToker So Leaux, who goes by the username itssoleaux, posted two videos about the incident, which received more than one million views combined. In the first, the neighbor can be seen picking up the package and walking away. The woman said she had never met the neighbor before. She later went to the neighbor’s apartment and knocked on the door, but no one answered.
So Leaux said they reported the incident to police. After the neighbor was told that a police report had been filed, she returned the package and left it on the apartment door handle. However, the package had already been opened.
The neighbor later sent a letter apologizing for taking the package. She explained that she had previously been offered the apartment next door and believed the package had been left behind. She said she mistakenly thought it was hers or similar to one she had been expecting and admitted that she should not have taken it.
She also addressed the clothing inside the package, saying the items had never been worn or used. According to her, the clothing accidentally got mixed in with clothes from a trip, and she washed everything together. She said she was returning the complete set and offered to reimburse the woman through Zelle if she did not want the items because they had been opened and washed.
Georgia Neighbor’s “Mistake” Has Viewers Unconvinced
The apology did little to settle the situation in the comments. Many viewers didn’t buy the Georgia neighbor’s explanation, especially after seeing the footage and hearing that she allegedly said something about picking up the package before taking it inside. People questioned why she didn’t check the name on the package or return it when the woman came knocking.
“Not her trying to gaslight you! Let it would have been the other way around she woulda did the most about her package and you would have been in CUFFS and EVICTED. Don’t let up until she’s evicted frfr,” one user wrote.
Many viewers told So Leaux not to drop the police report and to let the situation play out. Some even called for the Georgia neighbor to be evicted, while others said she should face consequences for opening someone else’s package.
The story also brought out plenty of people with their own package-theft stories. One commenter described having a $400 package stolen and said police eventually helped get it back from a neighbor. Others were still stuck on the neighbor’s explanation, particularly the claim that the clothing was accidentally mixed in with her own laundry.
At this point, the package has made it home. The Georgia neighbor’s explanation, however, is still on trial in the comments.
