A California woman was grabbing a bite to eat with a friend at a local mall. But when she went to sit down and enjoy the outdoors, a bar owner approached her. He claimed she wasn’t allowed to sit there, implying he had ownership over that part of the mall. Now, she’s showing their heated interaction and how she handled things.
Sara (@sayydababii) was eating lunch with friends at the Westfield Topanga Mall in California. She sat outside in a seating area and was approached by a bar owner, who said she couldn’t sit there. Sara records the moment she confronts the bar owner, who is recording her back with his phone. She asks him, “You’re having a bad day and you want to take it out on us? Go ahead. Sir, go ahead and go to your bar with zero customers.”
Sara then records herself outside in the seating area where everybody sits when they’re eating at the mall. She says she was eating her burrito when the bar owner approached her. In her video, he stands there and urges them, “Get out!” He then speaks with an employee, pointing at Sara and her friend. He told them, “If you guys don’t clean that up, I will remember your faces.” He lectured them on sitting in that area and told them that they could finish what they were eating, but aggressively told them to clean up afterward.
Sara and her friend were confused about the interaction, as there were no signs stating that this outdoor seating area is owned by that specific bar. She says there were no ropes and signs and they were able to enter the area like everybody else in the mall. On top of that, she sat far away from the area presumably owned by the bar.
The video immediately sparked reactions from commenters, some on Sara’s side and some agreeing with the bar owner. As one local commenter stated, “I always thought that area was just open seating for the food court.” Another commenter said they had a run-in with this same bar owner. She commented, “We were having a great time until he arrived with his negative energy. He was upset that people asked him for water because it’s a bar, not a restaurant.”
One commenter, however, tried to get to the bottom of why he may have approached them with that energy. They stated, “OK, so my understanding is he doesn’t want you guys to eat your food at his restaurant spot because you didn’t order from his restaurant?” But another commenter suggested, “Instead of being rude he could have just explained hey this seating is for so and so bar and pointed you to where normal outside seating is.”
Commenters continue to share their opinions on how rudely Sara and her friend were treated. What appeared to be a simple attempt to sit outside and enjoy their time at the mall quickly turned into an uncomfortable confrontation, with many viewers feeling the situation could have been handled very differently. Judging by the reactions, being told to leave was one thing, but it was the way Sara and her friend were spoken to that really rubbed people the wrong way.
