In their video posted on r/Weird, this stranger can be seen touching the door handle, holding up her phone, then walking off without any explanation.
Kaemai initially suspected the woman was trying to open the door, though she couldn’t justify why. “Honestly, I feel like I’m being paranoid too, but I genuinely cannot think of a way to explain her behavior,” they wrote in a comment. OP added that there wasn’t any package at their door, and the woman’s name tag around her neck was oddly blank.
Redditors had several theories, with some claiming she was pretending to be a worker of some sort while casing the house. “Typical criminal behavior,” remarked a user. However, what Kaemai found unusual was how the woman didn’t go to her neighbor’s home next but instead got into her car and left. Not to mention, she didn’t seem like she was there to steal. People pointed out that she ignored the expensive automatic litter box on the porch.
Reddit’s Biggest Theory Was That She’s a Political or Property Worker ‘Faking’ Her Job
So, many commenters turned to another possible theory: she could have been faking her job. “She works for a political campaign and is paid by the number of front doors she ‘knocks on’ in order to talk to the people inside about voting for the candidate,” suggested a Reddit user, pointing out that she only pretended to knock to fake an interaction.
Others had a similar hypothesis, claiming she was an insurance or property worker “documenting” an attempted visit to pretend she’s doing her job. Still, these are all theories; nothing about the woman has been confirmed. “This seems like the most plausible thing to me,” Kaemai wrote in a reply.
Whatever the case, professional burglar, political canvasser, or otherwise, anyone pretending to try someone’s door will raise any homeowner’s suspicions.
