Sometimes, it’s harder to get some adults to follow instructions than young children, regardless of whether the stakes are high. Likewise, Reddit user Trecani711’s important mail had a large “DO NOT FOLD” in all caps, yet someone at USPS in New York had done just the opposite. This wasn’t just some random package OP was upset about; “Mail guys folded my wife’s master’s degree,” he wrote.
Trecani says that his wife had been tirelessly working to earn her master’s for the past three years. To see it so carelessly folded up now just to fit in a mailbox was quite the disrespect, he felt. This wasn’t the first time a package had been unnecessarily bent; an Amazon driver had allegedly bent one of OP’s cooking spatulas to shove it into the mailbox.
What Trecani couldn’t understand was why the USPS courier couldn’t have just brought the envelope to the front entrance, which is covered with an awning. He claims it’s where all of his larger mail gets placed, and it’s a 15-second walk from the mailbox.
In other words, the USPS worker chose to forcibly squish the mail instead of walking a couple of steps to the front door. Bending the package wasn’t easy either, as OP pointed out, “Envelope is sturdy, I don’t think it would’ve bent without significant force (for paper).”
Reddit Was Torn Between Who to Blame for the Bent Master’s Degree
As to what Reddit thinks, users are mixed between blaming the school OP’s wife attended or the USPS courier. “Imagine working for three years for a master’s degree, and her college can’t even send it in an envelope that doesn’t bend,” read a comment. Another Redditor refuted the commenter in a reply, arguing, “The driver just willingly bent the [expletive] out of it.”
Some people just said both the university and the delivery person were to blame: “Shipper did nothing to prevent it from being bent/folded. Mail guy should have never folded it like that.” While Trecani doesn’t show Reddit what the degree actually looks like inside, the fact that it was treated this way after his wife had strived to earn it for her career was still quite the bummer.
Whether it needs to be replaced by the school, he doesn’t say, though plenty of Redditors urge him to do so.
