A Florida granny was recently filmed blocking traffic after she apparently decided she was going to take her walker down the middle of the road, no matter what anyone else had to say about it. The video of the unusual scene was filmed by one of the drivers and posted on TikTok, where it has since surpassed 1 million views. Netizens reacting to the video said they were amused and annoyed, while many felt particularly sorry for the woman accompanying her.
In the short clip, the elderly woman can be seen walking in the roadway with her walker as several vehicles waited behind her. Another woman, presumed to be her caretaker, stayed by her side and repeatedly tried to persuade her to get out of the road.
Granny, however, did not want to budge.
Each time the other woman reached for the walker to try to steer her toward safety, granny quickly moved it away from her and continued making her way along the road.
To the drivers’ credit, no one attempted to move past the pair. The vehicles remained stopped while the two women worked out exactly where granny was going next.
Eventually, the elderly woman and her companion made their way out of the traffic lanes and onto the median, finally allowing the waiting drivers to continue on their way.
Viewers React to the TikTok Post
The bizarre moment proved irresistible on TikTok, with the video going viral in less than 48 hours after being posted. In the comments, one viewer asked, “Why are old people like this?” Another joked, “They definitely putting granny on the lock down unit.” A third commented, “She is like get out of my way I am on a mission,” while a fourth added, “She might not drive no more but she gon walk.”
Someone else said, “I’m annoyed with Granny & I wasn’t even there.” Another comment read, “I’m calling the cops on her ahh i do not care twin.”
Some were very sympathetic toward the woman accompanying her, particularly after watching her repeatedly try to coax the elderly woman out of the road.
“That’s a nightmare of a day for a caregiver .. I’d quit after that,” one commenter wrote. “I feel so bad for the caretaker. I know she’s probably feeling so stressed,” another said.
A few viewers who have cared for relatives with dementia or Alzheimer’s said the scene reminded them of their own experiences, although there is no indication in the video that the woman has either condition.
“Probably dementia we are going through this with my grandma. It’s like a toddler but you can’t throw them over your shoulder,” one person wrote. Another shared, “My mom has Alzheimers and this is definitely what its like.”
Whatever Granny had going on that day, at least she eventually made it out of the traffic lanes safely. Hopefully, she made it the rest of the way to wherever she was so determined to go, and her presumed caretaker got a chance to recover from the adventure too.
