Florida gubernatorial candidate David Jolly was recently endorsed by the Miami Herald, one of the major media outlets in South Florida. However, the endorsement did not sit well with some more conservative-leaning Florida voters, who seemed skeptical that Jolly would be good for the future of Florida.
As posted by Jolly on his X account, the Miami Herald recently endorsed the candidate, with an editorial explaining why. According to the media outlet, Florida needs a change, especially to address its housing shortage, property insurance crisis, and concerns regarding data centers and AI. To this end, the Herald defended the Democrat as the right candidate.
This was just one of the many endorsements Jolly has received recently. Earlier this year, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, and others did the same. Jolly also seems to be on a growing trend recently. Recent polls indicate that Jolly is leading the race for governor of Florida by a narrow margin.
Internet Reacts to David Jolly’s Latest Endorsement
Internet users who seemingly live in Florida were not very enthusiastic about this latest endorsement on X. One of them wrote: “Did you hear that [Gov. Ron DeSantis]? This jokester says that Florida can’t wait for you to leave! I wish I was voting for you again, but I can assure you I’m not voting for a radical democrat.”
Multiple Floridians believed that the Sunshine State was good the way it was: “Don’t change Florida! One of the best states in the US.” Others feared for the future if Jolly were elected: “Not a Democrat like yourself. No flipping way. To ruin everything our great governor DeSantis achieved.”
Some folks were not scared, though, saying that the endorsement meant nothing: “A recent history of Miami Herald endorsements 2022: Charlie Crist (Democrat, lost); 2018: Andrew Gillum (Democrat, lost); 2014: Charlie Crist (Democrat, lost); 2010: Alex Sink (Democrat, lost). Don’t worry though Dave, keep telling yourself you’re different and special.” Someone else added: “Well, that will be the KISS OF DEATH. everyone knows the Herald is liberal.”
A smaller number of people in the comments did seem to support Jolly: “Florida it’s time to clean house! Florida it’s time to take out the trash! Florida it’s time to take our state back! Vote like your life depends on it because it does! Vote Blue!”
The future of Florida will be decided in November, and until then, more endorsements are expected for both sides.
