Vice President JD Vance told Florida State Rep. Angie Nixon she did not belong in America because of her socialist views. The remark came as he criticized Democrats running in Florida. Nixon responded on X, saying Florida is her home and she is “not going any damn place.”

I don't wanna COUCH my words here: I know JD Vance, his eyeliner, and absent Ashley Moody are used to running away from people when things get tough because they care more about themselves and their billionaire buddies than the people they represent. But this is my home. /1 https://t.co/KEPROMpgsN

In the video, Vance called Nixon a “self-described socialist” and pointed to Florida’s Latin American immigrant communities. He said many residents had seen socialism affect friends and family.

He then said the response to Nixon should be, “Get the hell out of here.” Vance added, “You don’t belong in America, if those are your views.”

Nixon answered with an X thread beginning, “I don’t wanna COUCH my words here.” She accused Vance and Ashley Moody of prioritizing themselves and billionaire allies over their constituents. “But this is my home,” she wrote.

She also rejected the suggestion that her policy priorities were un-American. Nixon pointed to lower property insurance and healthcare as issues working families deserve.

“They can take their tech-bro cash and their weird, intrusive agenda somewhere else,” she wrote. “I’m not going any damn place.”

She closed with another message for her opponents. “I don’t go high when they go low,” Nixon wrote. “I get LOUD.”

JD Vance Faces Pushback Over Angie Nixon ‘Doesn’t Belong in America’ Remark

The remarks quickly drew divided reactions, with critics focusing on Vance telling an American politician she did not belong in the country.

“The Vice President of America telling an American to get out of America…. Wild times,” one user wrote. Another argued, “Telling an American citizen that she ‘doesn’t belong in America’ because of her political beliefs is a serious line for a Vice President to cross.”

Others threw Vance’s wording back at him. “No JD, YOU don’t belong here,” one response stated. A separate post added, “Some of Us Choose to Stay and Fight for OUR Future and OUR HOME.”

Supporters of Vance pushed the other way. “Socialists don’t have a home in America. Get out,” one user wrote. Another stated, “I agree with Vance, you don’t belong here.”

Nixon’s response made clear that she does not intend to leave. The online argument remains divided over Vance’s remarks and her socialist politics.
