No one really likes to pay tolls, and that’s almost a fact in America. Still, it has to be done. Yet, when someone stops paying or uses toll services more than they should, some unexpected situations can happen. For instance, a Florida local recently revealed that their SunPass bill had exceeded a staggering $3,000. While many in the state were skeptical about how that was even possible, it seems there is more to the story — and, worst of all, the unfortunate driver claims someone else caused it.
What started as a normal Reddit post with OP asking for advice about their $3,000 with SunPass in Florida ended up becoming viral to the point that other news outlets have already covered it.
According to the Reddit user, they owe more than $3,000 to SunPass. So far, it seems they are paying off the balance as much as they can. However, they made the above post looking for advice, as they understandably felt their situation wasn’t exactly a common one.
Well, it seems they were right, as many other drivers in Florida were left with their jaws on the floor after seeing just how big the OP’s debt was. While many thought the Redditor had driven a lot and passed through the toll booths constantly, it seems someone else did that in their car. According to the OP, an acquaintance used their vehicle while they were out of the country, thus amassing the $3,000 debt they mentioned in the post.
After asking whether this was a normal situation, it seems many said this wasn’t that common and started losing their minds about how they even let the debt reach that amount.
Florida Redditors Believe a $3K Debt With SunPass Shouldn’t Happen
Judging by the comments, many think that a debt of $3,000 with SunPass should never happen, regardless of who was the one behind the well. Some are still surprised that OP owes that much money.
“How is that possible?“
“Ain’t no way…“
Fortunately, there were a few more useful Redditors who actually shared some advice regarding what to do.
“From reading the post and comments, it seems like the best and most obvious answer is to pay the debt instead of buying another car. I’d want 3k of unnecessary debt off my credit. You can still take payments from the friend and just finance their debt yourself. 3k isn’t cheap, but it isn’t earth-shattering either. Especially for someone with new car money.“
Since it was OP’s friend who caused this, many are hoping that the culprit will pay up. If not, they hope SunPass will understand and hopefully help this unfortunate driver.
