A man in Texas claimed that the local police department accused him and his family of breaking the law. According to him, Flock cameras placed his truck at the scene of a crime. However, at the time of the incident, his truck was parked at his house, leading him to conclude there had been a mix-up with the controversial surveillance system.
The Flock camera situation was explained online by Chad Naho’olewa, also known as Lonestar Hawaiian. He is a popular automotive content creator who often shares his DIY projects with his followers. With many viral videos under his belt, the one attached above became one of his biggest. It garnered 778,000 views, 82,900 likes, and more than 2,800 comments.
The Texas man started off strong, saying that Flock cameras had accused him and his family of committing a crime. Chad’s frustrations started when, according to him, the local police department repeatedly called his wife and informed them that their truck had been involved in a crime.
“Apparently, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., there was a black Chevy truck that was involved in a crime on a roadway that runs east to west right over there,” Chad said as he pointed at the road right next to his home.
A Suspect
Given that the local Flock cameras logged that Chad drove his black Chevy truck on that same road, he was automatically included as a suspect, he said. Now, he will have to defend himself and the fact that his truck was parked at his home and not present at the crime scene. Still, the whole situation worried him profusely.
“My wife and kids are in this truck all the time. Imagine a situation where we get pulled over by local PD with their weapons drawn because of Flock cameras linking us to whatever they’re talking about,” the Texas man said. “I wouldn’t be as upset if it had never happened before. But it has, and we have to think about it.”
Chad went on to talk about how Flock cameras were presented as a way to cut down on vehicle theft and to find missing persons. However, stories such as his have continued to pop up, and now he is wondering whether the whole surveillance system is unconstitutional or not.
Social Media Reactions
Many viewers reacted by bashing Flock camera technology online. One said, “Flock cameras need to be abolished.” Another one commented, “I live in Maui, and we have a ton of them. People are ripping them down.”
Other viewers told the Texas man he needed to take action. One wrote, “Sue them. They can’t just assume it was you.” Another one added, “Lawsuit… Flock cameras are unconstitutional… Period.”
Chad has yet to post an update regarding his current situation with the police department. Hopefully, things will get sorted out promptly.
