Often, where food is prepared matters as much as the food itself, at least in terms of sanitation and safety. That is why so many people were appalled when a Colorado resident revealed a hallway of uncovered meat at a hockey rink. Reddit user DairyFreeChickadee shared a photo of the scene, claiming that Texas Roadhouse had stored its steaks in the hallway near the locker rooms, with plans to serve the meat later in restaurants.
For those unaware, Texas Roadhouse holds meat-cutting competitions, and having them inside a chilly hockey rink has been going on for years. However, DairyFreeChickadee says staff stored these steaks uncovered in the hallway and left them unattended. On top of that, they added that “hockey games were in session and many players walked past the meat before and after their games.”
As a cherry on top, DairyFreeChickadee claims the organizers at this particular competition said the steaks would be served to customers at local Texas Roadhouses nearby. Needless to say, plenty of Redditors were disturbed, with some disgusted that was allegedly a thing. “Yeah when you see how some people hand meat especially in a professional setting it can be pretty messed up,” remarked a commenter.
“As someone who used to run the Zamboni and clean locker rooms for a tier 3 junior hockey team, this is disgusting. Those kids be stankin,” exclaimed another. “You should share that picture with the local health department,” suggested a third. “Mmmm, locker room meats,” jokingly wrote a fourth.
Some People Argued that Restaurant Environments Can Be Much Worse
On the flip side, there were other Redditors who argued that most restaurant kitchen environments are much worse than meat stored in a hockey rink hallway. Others claimed that the meat wouldn’t be served at restaurants, while a few claimed the steaks would be fine after being thoroughly cooked.
While it’s unclear whether DairyFreeChickadee’s claim that the meat would later be served is true, no one can argue that having sweaty athletes around restaurant food doesn’t create an unsettling image in the mind.
