Time and again, we’ve heard of things that ICE does that border on the questionable. Yet, it seems that those stories aren’t over, as there’s a recent military report that has come to light talking about some shock gloves that ICE allegedly used. According to the information, these gloves that ICE agents used to detain people are quite dangerous, as even some military personnel who came close to them during an exercise discovered that they hurt a lot.
A recent Army study shared by AP News mentions how shock gloves used by ICE agents are quite dangerous, as they can be painful for those who are victims of them.
As context, it seems ICE allegedly knew about the effects of these shock gloves even before signing the $16 million contract to get them. This contract gave ICE around 6,000 pairs of shock gloves.
Back in 2024, the Army had an exercise, and those playing the roles of combative prisoners experienced a lot of pain when someone touched them while wearing shock gloves. Some of the symptoms the participants experienced included “fatigue, soreness, and excessive apprehensiveness about being shocked,” as the study says.
Despite this information, ICE still supposedly uses them, and some people disagree. If they are causing so much pain as the study claims, they think they are just another fear tactic and violent to an extent.
Americans Are Afraid Other Authorities May Use These Gloves
So far, most opinions have been against ICE, with several Redditors thinking someone should stop the agency from using the gloves.
“This is going to end poorly. If you give reasons that a person would be afraid to close the distance, it means more ranged options. This has the seesaw effect. Man creates a blade; the blade, in turn, makes chainmail. Chainmail revolutionizes arrow use; in return, they make plate armor. With these gloves, people will turn to a ranged option. Philosophically and historically, this is a bad, bad, bad idea. The escalation can only go one way.“
Some are even afraid that other authorities might use the same shock gloves as ICE.
“The gloves are ostensibly non-lethal, which means they’ll be used all the time. They’ll become the first thing other authorities use against people.“
According to the note above, some members of the Senate have asked ICE to stop using the gloves, but no one has answered yet.
