A Black woman in Georgia says she experienced an uncomfortable encounter with police while taking a walk at a park in Sandy Springs. The woman, identified as Marrón Jadore, claimed in a TikTok post that she was wrongfully targeted and racially profiled by an officer who followed her and demanded her identification without explaining why.
The clip has attracted more than a million views, with many netizens questioning what the officer’s motive could have been.
Jadore said she had decided to spend some time exploring Morgan Falls Park when the encounter happened. According to her, she was minding her business and walking back toward her vehicle when a Sandy Springs police officer drove up behind her.
The officer reportedly got out of his patrol car and approached her. He asked whether she was alone at the park and if she had been speaking to anyone on the phone. Jadore told him she wasn’t talking to anyone but wanted to know why he had stopped her in the first place.
Rather than explaining why he had stopped her, the officer asked for her driver’s license, which she told him was inside her vehicle.
She then began walking toward her car to retrieve it, but the officer followed closely behind her in his patrol car. “I feel very uncomfortable,” Jadore said while filming. “Not really sure what is going on with these people.”
Because she felt uneasy, Jadore stopped some people passing by and asked whether they could stay with her. After she explained what had transpired between her and the officer, the bystanders appeared to agree to walk with her.
When she finally reached her vehicle, she showed the officer where her driver’s license was. He allowed her to retrieve it from her purse, and she handed it over while continuing to question why she was being investigated.
Georgia Woman Claims She Was Told to Leave the Park
In a second video, Jadore revealed that the encounter didn’t end after she provided her license.
She said the officer took her identification back to his patrol car to run a check, while several other police vehicles arrived at the scene. According to her, she was surrounded by four police vehicles with armed officers.
She claimed the officer also instructed another officer to remain near her while he checked her information. About five minutes later, he returned and told her she needed to leave the park.
Jadore asked why she was being told to leave and why the officer had run her ID. The officer responded that the park had closed and that checking her identification was part of an investigation they were conducting in the area.
Jadore has since questioned the officer’s claim that the park was closing and wondered why she had been singled out. In the caption, she claimed that she was told to leave around 7:20 p.m., but that the park wasn’t scheduled to close until 10 p.m. She added that she still needed a “real justification for this search” and that she only complied so she would not be “the next black person unjustifiably killed.”
Viewers Question Officer’s Conduct and Urge Woman to Take Action
In the comments under Jadore’s TikTok post, many viewers expressed concern about the officer.
“That entire encounter gave me the ‘ick’!! Now he has your address! There is absolutely nothing OK about this! He is up to no good!” one viewer claimed. Another wrote, “This is NOT okay. He needs to be charged for harassment, race crime, intimidation, etc.”
“This is giving vibes like he was looking to harm you. I don’t like this at all,” someone else alleged. A fourth remarked, “And ppl rlly think racism and racial profiling is still not a thing.”
Some viewers also warned Jadore against allowing officers to search her personal belongings. “Oh lord. Never give them permission to go into your car or purse. It’s a perfect opportunity to set you up,” one person warned. Another advised, “Don’t ever allow them to go through your personal items. Never! If they can’t tell you why you’re being stop immediately ask for a supervisor.”
Several others encouraged her to pursue the matter through official channels. “Sue expeditiously! Like call a lawyer right now,” one commenter urged. Another suggested, “File a formal complaint and ask for body cam and audio. This is actually illegal.”
A few people had an entirely different theory about the officer’s behavior. “I feel like he was tryna talk to you in a flirty way and he backtracked when he seen you recording then had to make it seem like he was doing a job. He ain’t slick,” one commenter speculated.
The TikTok videos do not exactly establish whether the stop was unlawful or racially motivated, and the Sandy Springs Police Department’s account of the encounter has not been provided as of this writing.
Whatever the case may be, Jadore has maintained that she was racially profiled and described the encounter as an intimidating experience.
